They say a golden thread runs through our life experiences which will ultimately lead us to our life’s purpose; each of those experiences shape and grow our talents and natural gifts which could be used and shared to serve a higher purpose.
As I look back on my life I can clearly see how images, travel and supporting others started having an impact on my life from a very young age.
My interest in photography came from my mother’s photo albums and magazines, specially the square formatted black and white images; my father loved to travel and I was always out of my skin happy when we were woken early mornings to take a road trip to the Karoo or wherever.
Supporting others with challenging life issues came natural, even as a young child, so it was a natural choice to go into the field of coaching and counseling.
My creative spirit emerged late in life and nudged me towards taking up photography again, which I did a little bit, with a point and shoot earlier on, and this time it was with a “proper” digital camera. I am more a feeling kind of photographer, connecting with my subject on an emotional and soulful level, intuitively looking for an expression, a behavior, a pattern to capture that moment, which the late photographer, Henry Cartier-Brasson, coined as “the decisive moment”.
I started traveling more and more for photographic experiences and made a decision to close my life coaching & counseling practice, but soon realized that wherever I traveled I encounter co-travelers sharing their life challenges with me and ending up coaching or counseling them along the way. I jokingly started to call myself The Traveling Coach.
I once more saw the golden thread in my life experiences, and knowing that our life’s purpose evolves as we grow older, I took a leap of faith and added traveling to my portfolio.
Photography and Traveling have the amazing gifts of opening up our senses to new experiences, to change our perceptions, to liberate us from comfort zones and to take us on inner journeys.
